DOG TRAINING and BEHAVIOR CONSULTING

Start with a Virtual Orientation (Required for Private Training)

All private training and behavior consulting begins with a one-hour virtual orientation. This is where we review your intake form, talk through your goals, setup, and challenges, and begin creating your customized training plan. This helps me see the full picture of you, your dog, and everyone involved - so we can start strong and train smarter.

Puppy Training

I can help you start training your puppy from day one. Proper socialization is essential for raising a confident and well-rounded dog, but it needs to be done correctly. My approach considers your dog’s unique genetics and personality because every pup is different and may require a tailored method. Together, we’ll set your puppy up for success in our world!

Adolescent, Dog Life Skills & Dog Obedience

As your dog enters adolescence, you may face new challenges, and it might feel like they’ve forgotten everything overnight. This phase can be tough, but it’s also a normal part of development. Compassion is key, as your dog’s brain is undergoing significant changes. With my dog obedience and life skills training, I’ll guide you through this period with effective strategies and support.

Obedience and life skills training isn’t just for puppies and adolescents - it’s also ideal for adult and rescue dogs that need more than just help settling in. Rescue dogs, in particular, often benefit greatly from learning or relearning foundational skills to build confidence, establish trust, and thrive in their new homes. I’ll help you create a strong, positive connection with your dog while teaching essential life skills.

Behavior Consulting

Behavior modification goes beyond ‘simple’ training by looking at your dog as a complete individual. Every aspect of your dog’s unique personality is considered, including their domestication history, genetics, neurobiology, endocrinology, physiology, cognition, emotions, and social behaviors.

A Personalized, Holistic Approach

By understanding these factors, we can identify the adjustments needed to achieve the desired outcome in a compassionate, reward-based environment. This isn’t a one-size-fits-all method - it’s built around your dog, your goals, and your relationship together.

What Behavior Work Looks Like

Behavior modification is about changing your dog’s behavior issues together. This process can take time, as your dog has already formed opinions and patterns around these issues. To create change, we need to identify the root cause and help your dog shift how they feel - not just how they act.

The approach is highly customized. We consider the severity of the behavior, your dog’s learning style, and your teaching. Your dog will largely determine the timeline for progress - and together, we’ll implement a step-by-step plan that supports their success.

Examples of behavior issues I can help with include:

    •    Separation anxiety

    •    Resource guarding

    •    Dog-human aggression*

    •    Dog-dog aggression*

    •    Predatory behaviors

    •    Compulsive behaviors

All training is done with you, the dog owner, because working together strengthens the bond between you and your dog. I’ll provide you with the knowledge and tools you need to succeed.

*I don’t take on all cases involving a bite history.

However, during our New Client Intake & Orientation, we’ll discuss your dog’s history in detail. From there, I’ll let you know whether I’m the right fit to support you. If not, I’ll gladly refer you to a trusted, reward-based trainer or behavior consultant who can help. Sometimes I will also suggest the involvement of a Veterinarian Behaviorist to help alongside training and behavior change.

In these cases, reward-based methods are crucial, as fear-inducing or balanced methods can shut down the dog and worsen their responses.
