Mantrailing – Progression Level Workshop Mantrailing is a dog-led scent sport where dogs learn to follow the unique scent of a specific human. It builds confidence, independence, and problem-solving while strengthening trust and communication between dog and handler. This half-day workshop is for teams who have completed a Mantrailing Introduction or Beginner–Starter workshop and are ready to take the next step. At the Progression Level, dogs work the full scent picture — ground scent, air scent, or both — while teams are challenged with longer and more complex trails. Handlers focus on reading their dog, managing the long line, and supporting the trail without directing. There is no “right” way to trail. The goal is to strengthen teamwork while allowing the dog to solve increasingly realistic scent problems. What to expect Teams will work trails up to ¼ mile, including multiple turns and environmental changes, with increasing focus on handling skills, teamwork, and scent interpretation. Dogs work one at a time so each team can trail calmly and at their own pace. Trails are adjusted to each dog’s experience and comfort level. Attendance counts as ½ of the requirement toward certification for the new Sleuth Dogs Mantrailing trials launching in February 2026 with Bloodhound Mantrackers.
