Continuing Nose Work® (Level 2) is designed as the natural next step after Introduction to K9 Nose Work® (Level 1). This class continues to develop your dog’s search skills entirely on primary reward, while expanding environments, search setups, and problem-solving challenges. The focus is on strengthening independence, confidence, stamina, and thoughtful searching - without introducing target odors yet. Progression is based on the quality of the search, not speed or timelines. All searches in Level 2 remain on primary reward only. Target odors are not introduced in this class. WHO THIS CLASS IS FOR Level 2 is for teams who want to continue building and expanding primary reward searches in a variety of settings. This class is ideal for teams who want to: Work more complex interior searches Expand into exterior searches Explore vertical and elevated primary hides Practice blind searches Develop problem-solving through mazes and channeling Experience introductory vehicle searches, all on primary reward CLASS FORMAT Ongoing class format Five-session package required Sessions are 1 hour long Package valid for 2 months Clients choose which scheduled Level 2 sessions to attend within the 2 months of package time. Please sign up for the classes you want to participate in after buying the package. Dogs work one at a time with rest periods, supporting focus, observation, and a calm learning environment. WHAT WE WORK ON Each week has a specific focus. Exercises may include: Expanded interior searches Exterior searches on primary reward Vertical and elevated primary hides Mazes and channeling Blind searches Threshold searches Mixed-object searches with and without boxes Introductory vehicle searches using primary reward only Leash handling and leash-length skills All hides remain sourceable and accessible, allowing dogs to self-reward. WHY LEVEL 2 MATTERS Level 2 provides a strong bridge between foundational Nose Work and future odor-based searching. Working on primary reward allows dogs and handlers to experiment, learn, and make mistakes in a low-pressure way. Once odor is introduced, searches become less forgiving. Time spent in Level 2 strengthens skills, confidence, and teamwork before adding complexity. You will experience everything you will do on odor later as well.
