Service Description

Mantrailing is a dog-led scent sport where dogs learn to follow the unique scent of a specific human. It encourages confidence, independence, and problem-solving while strengthening trust and communication between dog and handler. This half-day workshop introduces teams to the foundations of Mantrailing in a clear, supportive environment. Dogs are encouraged to work the full scent picture - using ground scent, air scent, or both - without pressure to follow a specific pattern. There is no “right” way for the dog to trail. The workshop is suitable for a wide range of dogs and is especially engaging for dogs who enjoy nose-driven activities and purposeful work. ⸻ SERVICE DESCRIPTION Each team will complete multiple short trails, gradually progressing to a trail where the human is out of sight. Dogs work individually while others rest, allowing for a calm and focused setup. The workshop focuses on: • Dog-led searching and decision-making • Understanding how scent moves through the environment • Supporting your dog on the long line without directing • Building confidence, trust, and teamwork Both new and experienced teams are welcome. Trails are adjusted to each dog’s experience and comfort level. Attendance at this workshop counts as 1/2 of the requirement toward certification to participate in the new Sleuth Dogs Mantrailing trials, which will be launched by Bloodhound Mantrackers beginning in January 2026. ⸻ WHAT TO BRING • Your dog • A well-fitting harness • A long leash (12–15 feet minimum) • High-value treats and/or a favorite toy • Weather-appropriate gear for yourself and your dog ⸻ FORMAT This is a half-day Mantrailing workshop taught collaboratively by Sandra Winfrey (dreamlike4paws) and Diane Ross (Proactive Canine Solutions).
