K9 Nose Work® Level 3 is where dogs begin working on target odors - birch, anise, and clove - paired with their established primary reward. This stage builds a clear understanding of what your dog is searching for and strengthens communication at source. Handlers learn to recognize more subtle changes in behavior and develop better timing and observation skills. The focus is on clarity, confidence, and independent problem-solving. This course follows the official NACSW™ structure and continues to emphasize dog-driven, self-rewarding searches. Each dog works individually while others rest between runs, creating a calm and focused environment that supports both confident and sensitive dogs. It also helps preparing for AKC trials. The course includes six in-person sessions, each 1 hour long, providing focused, hands-on learning, observation, and coaching. ⸻ COURSE OUTLINE Dogs are introduced to target odors through pairing, gradually building a strong association between odor and reward. Throughout the course, teams will: • Transition from primary to odor-based searches • Build clear commitment at source • Improve handler timing and observation • Expand search setups and environments • Work through increasing search complexity The goal is to create a confident, motivated dog that understands odor and can communicate clearly when they find it. ⸻ HOME PRACTICE After each session, you’ll receive a short homework email. These activities reinforce skills, build consistency, and help your dog stay engaged between classes.
